In response to a friend’s query posted on facebook, I wrote the following; and then thought it would be good to have on here for everyone to read.
We have been following a ‘primal’ way of eating for some time now…we eat certified organic foods, lots of veggies, fruit….try to eat natural meats [grass fed, or wild ...... luckily have some friends who hunt and share the meat, so the freezer has venison, chickens]…..do something active every day, … have short sharp workouts using total body movements…..
The eating has been the biggest improvement, Olly……I highly recommend Primal living……in fact a good website to look at is Mark Sisson’s, ‘Marks Daily Apple’……all about eating primal….quite technical in places, but a blog worth reading and following for sure.
A handful of rules I try to stick by:
- If it has more than 3 ingredients on a pack, or contains something you have difficulty spelling or even pronouncing, I tend to stay clear.
- 80 / 20…..try to live and eat naturally 80% of the time, and all is good
- Have a plateful with as much colour as possible, loads of veggies etc
- Try to only eat certified organic food…..no harmful pesticides, chemicals to worry about [Certified Organic means the producer has been organic a minimum of 3 years, and therefore the soil has recovered somewhat]
- Don’t have farmed fish….go for wild [Salmon from Alaska is the tops]
- If it is in a can or packet, it’s probably been through some sort of processing and would be worth staying clear of.
- Gotta have fun mate, if it becomes a chore, do something different.
- Stay active….100 Rep Challenge is a good thing to have a go at….outside of a workout, challenge yourself to do 100 reps of something….pick an exercise or handful of exercises, and do 100 reps total [either in one go or throughout the day]
- Train the body as a whole unit…..short and sharp workouts
- Sprint FULLOUT in a session a couple of times a week …..feel like sh*te at the time, but afterwards….oh boy…good times
